Released: 11th July 2016, Download Only
Old Time Mountain Music has its origins in the music from Appalachia region in the Eastern United States. Immigrants from Wales, England,Ireland and Scotland arrived in Appalachia in the 18th Century. They brought with them their traditions of ballads, usually played on a fiddle. The Banjo, thought to be popularised among white musicians through blackface minstrelsy and the guitar, mandolin and autoharp which became popular through mail order, were all added to the mix in the late 19th Century. These string bands were started to be recorded in the 1920’s and gained popularity with the emergence of independent radio stations
This album is an essential goldmine of classic recordings and should be in the collection of every lover of American music.
